how to

im looking to give my 1978 hohner acoustic a matte finish its got some spots where its already matte somewhat so i was gonna do the whole thing ya know any one else do this to an acoustic?

you could try a scotch brite pad, there pretty mild.... id try a spot on the back first though

from my experience itll still look like it,but you cant really see em from far.


use steel wool in a straight like if your down for the look

Get some stuff called "Micro Mesh" from the Stew-Mac website.

Don't use scotch-brite pads...ouch! That'll ruin it faster than you can say crap-ola!

The MM will take the shine off very gently.

that works fine too!I use a combination of that and steel wool.....i over did mine though lol.looks nice from far though

i just did it with 0000. steel wool its looking pretty good only now i wanna do it to my epi lp neck lol

not if you do it right... if swirled gently with the scotch-brite pad without digging in you can get rid of the gloss.... just enough pressure to float the pad and circular motions, after you finish clean with lighter fluid then apply a buffing compound... the end result is a dulled, but not flat finish.
