Talking I'm gonna experiment WooHoo!!!

All right. I flat out love the DiMarzio Norton pickup (and DiMarzio's in general). I've used it in several guitars in both neck and bridge with great results. Several of my guitars over the years have found a Breed Bridge and a Norton in the neck, or a Norton in the Bridge and a Breed Neck. Now I have this new Les Paul that needs a rewire and some new pups. I actually Love the stock neck pup, but hate the bridge. ( it's got Gibson BurstBucker Pros in it now). I Really was just gonna order a Norton with a polished nickel cover and be done with it... BUT 1)The factory pups are just two conductor wire so I can't do the Jimmy Page mod easily, and 2) I really want to go with dbl cream instead of the covers.

So here's what I'm thinking of trying this time:

DiMarzio Norton in the Bridge with an Evolution Neck

or

Steve's Special in the Bridge with a Norton in the Neck

I've never tried either of the above pups, and I'm curious

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have a good plan and a lot of experience with DiMarzios. I can't remember DiMarzios specs, but I would consider a pickup with an A2 magnet in the neck with a 7.6k -8.0k ohm range.

Really the only way to see if it works is to try it.

I see you're located in Waterbury. We go through there on our way to my wife's family in Mass. Man, the Conn State Troopers are aweful.... Lurking behind every overpass

Re: I'm gonna experiment WooHoo!!!

Evo's are really high output pickups and very treble heavy. They're higher output than Norton's, so having having one in the neck with a Norton in the bridge might be tough to balance out. Also, the Evo's are pretty unforgiving - they pick up every little nuance, which is both good and bad, depending on how good of a player you are

The Evo neck is rated below the Norton, so it should balance nicely. Since I like to solo on the neck I'm thinking the bite from the Evo should work well.

What are you going to do with the stock pups? Want to sell them?
