Help needed...

I have a Duncan Pearly Gates that doesn't work at he moment, it just hums a lot when selected.

When tested with the meter it has read as little as 0.5 (while still wired in) to 22.5 its all over the place and doesn't show a stable resistance for more than a few seconds. i can't see any obvious faults, i've peeled back the tape for a little look but didn't delve to far. does anyone recognise these symptoms?

Where did you do your meter test? Did you look inside to see if a ground wire might have come loose somewhere?

Re: Help needed...

You've probably got one coil down. This explains the low reading. The high reading is probably a false reading that can happen as you momentarily lose contact with one of the meter probes.

Re: Help needed...

Thanks for the responses guys

I had a look but doesn't seem like any wires loose. Being a Seymour, i have the positive on the black wire and negative on the green and bare which both would go to the back of the pot as in the diagram sheet i have for SD's.

i have firm contact when the reading fluctuates, it was only low when wired into the guitar, its now been taken out and i get the various ever changing high readings.

I'll also post this question in luthiers corner as suggested but please continue any suggestions
