That's awesome. They are both in such nice condition.

I think that's the closest you can get to owning a time machine...

Re: My 52 goldtop and 53 les Paul amp

I always heard the trapeze tailpiece and shallow neck pitch made them almost unplayable, never played a 52.

That's the first time I've ever seen one of those Gibson amps.

Very cool !

Re: My 52 goldtop and 53 les Paul amp

Very nice!!

My Luthier has a trapeze GT and has been talking about having a new trapeze designed that would wrap over.

I'd love to get my hands on a '52 or '53 since they are still "somewhat" affordable to those who are not super rich.

Very nice guitar, and amp. Thanks for sharing!

Re: My 52 goldtop and 53 les Paul amp

Thanks for all the comments on the guitar and amp...I have no complaints with the guitar or the trapeze except the vintage frets are smaller than what I am used to....it's no problem, I have a few other guitars to play if it ever gets to be a problem..
The amp sounds best with the guitar plugged into the mic channel....

Very nice guitar, and amp. Thanks for sharing!
There's no need. You can buy them off the shelf that look vintage but top wrap. Only thing is they're only available in the UK.

Hi, Sgt. Pepper
Where can you buy a wrap over trapeze off the shelf? I'm looking for one.
Thanks
Werner

Where are you located? If you're in the UK, send me a PM and I'll give you the phone number of the guy with them, otherwise, it's probably easier to buy one from Tim at Bareknuckle Pickups who also stocks them and accepts card payments, or our own member Nugget of Shed Pickups also has them.

wow, that's awesome. Love that vintage stuff. Sweet package, something like Les himself used back in the day. Is that the original case? If so it's in amazing shape.

Hey, Sgt.Pepper
I'm located in the US. I'll check out Tim and Nugget. Been looking for one for a long time. Thanks a bunch

Re: My 52 goldtop and 53 les Paul amp

I saw this thread and had to register, I've been lurking for ages and see a lot of familiar names

Anyway, beautiful guitar and amp set, congratulations! I'm curious what the guitar weighs? Also, it looks like it might have the early type of pickup switch, which is sort of "taller" than the usual 50s switch? Hard to say for certain from the photos.

Sgt, I'm also interested in the wrapover trap you're talking about. I've checked BKP and Shed's sites but can't find any reference? I'd love to see how the thing works, maybe get one if it's not too expensive or doesn't involve anything not reversible. Do you have any more info? Is it just a replacement bar, or complete new trap? Any links you could share? Thanks!
