Should I invest in good patch cables?

Im using about 8 pedals on a board. Should I buy nice patch cables or continue using the 2.95 livewire cables.

I would go with nicer cables... you're already probably losing a ton of your original signal by running through all those pedals.

Re: Should I invest in good patch cables?

Yes. Get some George L's in .155. It's the original cable that made them famous and it's the same cable inside as the .225, just much thinner jacket. How thin? You can fit a 20ft cable, with ends, in a dress shirt pocket. With their solderless connections if you have to repair a cable it's a 30 second job. The prices on their site are high. You should be able to find a local store that has one of their cable warehouses. They can make you the cables to whatever length you want cheaper than buying them direct. Especially patch cables. George L's site has a 6" and 12" patch cables for $19.50. The same would be under $10 locally where you buy the ends and then it's $1 per foot for the cable. Once you find a place buy a couple of extra feet of cable with no ends to use for repairs if necessary. If you call George L's they might be able to point you to a local dealer.

Even with true bypass, you've got all kinds of connections being hooked together which equals opportunities for signal loss.

I think you will be quite surprised at the difference. Please let us know what you think once it's setup.

Re: Should I invest in good patch cables?

I like coily cables.....They seem to tame some of the harsh highs......inductance maybe......mine are both sub $25 coily cables...but I like the tone difference over straight cables.....it's very subtle.....but I notice it

Re: Should I invest in good patch cables?

I'm thinkin' about doing the same w/my rig. I don't have a lot of stompboxes as of yet, but I plan to add some in the fairly near future. I'm also in the very slow process of building a pedalboard, complete w/locking Neutrik jacks to plug into, so I figure that I might has well have a nice clean setup that George L's would afford me. Plus, I could make any length of patch cable needed!
