Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I have recently purchased a Ibanez S2170 with the Bubinga top and love it. I was wondering if anyone else here plays Ibanez and what their thoughts are on them.

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

Yeah dude, my first 2 guitars were Ibanez's, still got one of them. The first was a starter guitar, an RX20, which i sold to a friend, then i bought an RG450DX, they don't make them anymore. I installed a Dirty Fingers pickup in the bridge, so it screams. probably needs a new neck, as i think it's slightly warped over the years, but it doesn't get much play time anymore anyway. I still def have a soft spot for Ibanez guitars, especially RG's.

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

My first "serious" guitar was an Ibby Artist Series, a red 1981 AS-50 (335 copy). I've been playing it since it was new, and I've no intention of selling. The only change was replacing the original tuning machines with Grovers, which fit right in the holes with no mods (how lucky is that?).

This little puppy can do it all -- jazz, blues, rock and R&B without a blink. Factory pickups are excellent, and I'm saving up for a fret job and neck setup. That's all I'll ever do to it.

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I have a MIK AR300 very nice guitar, not quite as nice as the MIJ ones I had. I have had several MIJ Artists AS200s and AR300s . I like mine is all I can say I guess. The MIK AR300 does not have coil tap via mini switch, has super 58 pick ups and a maple cap , and flame veneer. The MIK pups sound the same as the MIJ to me.
I have yet to look at the MIC ones?

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

Wow that artist series looks great. When I tried out the Ibanez the other day it felt like an awesome guitar. It seems to me that an Ibanez is really worth the money unlike some other guitars...I basically wanted something with a trem, humbuckers, and two cutaways. The S series is a great instrument for the diverse player. I wil get some pics up as soon as I get her in.

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I have an Ibanez 540R, it's a great guitar but I'm not used to its flat neck. All I've been playing lately are fenders.
I'm probably going to end up selling the Ibanez

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I happen to be a big Fender guy myself having a sweet spot for Strats and Teles. At first I was concerned about a large radius but since I play classical guitar its not too big of a deal.

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I've played them! They're great! I found the neck a bit stiff, but they had thick strings on the guitar because it was tuned down.

Best part is the whammy bar...whoo!

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

Ya, I've had a few

They're really well made instruments

This one here

is probably one of my favorite guitars I've ever owned. The fretwork was amazing, it had huge tone with attack and sustain, I keep looking for another one like it

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I have a black RG420, that I love alot. The neck feeels sooo good and smooth.

Now I just need to switch the pick up out and replace the floyd rose pro.

Any suggestions for pickups?

depends on what you're looking for tone wise. If you want a set that will fatten it up go with the diMarzio Breed set, as it was basically designed for Steve Vai's Ibanez to have more a ballzy PAF tone that his traditional Evo Screamers

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I've got 2. I've posted this pic before - a 1980 AR-3000 with factory-installed preamp:

I love that guitar. I'd put it up against just about any guitar I've ever played.

I've also got an AX-7221 7-string. Pretty nice guitar, even though I don't really use it that much.

The Artist series gave way to the Artcore, which are basically defined as the semi-hollow models. The original Ibby Lee Ritenour (LA jazzer/session player) sig was an Artist tobacco burst with the f-holes sealed up for feedback control.

A pic I grabbed off the net... not the original.

Lee's one of the few to have sig guitars by a US "original" (his Gibson L) and an Asian "copy" company, which Ibanez was considered at the time.

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

wow those are all sweet looking Ibbys. A majority of Ibanez player seem to use them for heavier tones but I find that you can use them in many applications.

The AR-3000 can do just about anything. It's great on heavy tones (the preamp makes it big as a house) and the coil tap/phase switches lighten it up real good. I can get pretty close to Strat tones with the coil taps

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

Owned quite a few Ibanez models from Korean to the Japanese made Prestige line models. All were great solid guitars. I love the thin neck, but my only gripe was it felt too flat. Great company and their Prestige cases are amazing!

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I have an Artcore AS-73 and it is a great guitar for the money, it is my 'beater' 335 style guitar. Also have a couple of RG's kicking around, one is a 7 string. The lipstick tube Talman is a cool fiddle. Also a Mike Mushok baritone. Maybe my favorite is a fugly old brown Ibanez Blazer, it is hideous looking, but a fantastic sounding guitar.

Agreed! I had the RGA 121 and it was one of the best sounding/feeling guitars I've ever bought. I regretted selling it. Plug it into any amp or put any pickup on it, and it would sound great no matter what. RGA Prestige series is where its at!

Of course I play Ibanez since it's the only guitar I have other than my brother's Squier strat.

It's and RG120. (It was my birthday present)

Re: Anyone here play Ibanez guitars?e

I might be the biggest Ibby fan here Lots of love for that company on this forum. The S2170's nice - did you check out the S5470's or Herman Li sig? The Sabers/S series are my favorite Ibanez models, hands down!

Presently I own a 2000 Ibanez RG570 with PAF Joe in the neck and Evo in the bridge, a 2003 JS1000, an 83 Roadster II, and an 87/2006 frankenstein S series. I need to get some pics of them all together like C Squared
