Afraid to say my '55 left the country never to return. If it helps any, it's having a happy life here in the UK.

FWIW that '56 was a really good deal, but from the angle of the lower post the bridge bushing has fallen right into the pickup hole. It will need a little attention from a luthier.

I feel so sorry for that seller. I've had dealings with that buyer and he's bad news and a conman. Just ask Bil Pandolfi (tradeitinmusic) who's had similar dealings and now lists a disclaimer on his auctions about Austria. I wonder if it's too late to send the seller a warning.

Unfortunately it's hard to get reliable contact with a seller after the auction has ended. Hopefully the seller will do OK in the end, if he relists, I'll bid! Ebay has been a surprisingly happy place to trade guitars for me, but I am aware that there are people aiming to make it miserable...

I wouldn't write off the whole of the nation of Austria because of one buttplug...

Interesting story about this one -- you may have seen my posts elsewhere that I'm looking for a 50's Jr. I had my eye on this and put a nice fat bid down right before the auction's close... but my bid was rejected!!! Why? Apparently eBay claimed the seller had put an auto-filter blocking all bids from users without PayPal accounts. The thing is, I have a PayPal account with over 150 transactions on it, but it wasn't linked to my eBay account. I've never had this problem before, and I was livid. I wrote the seller and asked him about it, saying that he lost several hundred dollars on this Junior by using the auto-filter. He wrote back and was very apologetic and shocked himself, because he'd never set the auto-filter to block anyone! Long story short, myself and who knows who else were blocked from bidding, so this guitar went for an INSANE price. Also, the auction stated "US buyers only," but as you guys have noted, the winner is in Austria. I'm not sure how this will play out, but I let the seller know I'm interested if he doesn't want to deal with the Austrian bidder. Fingers crossed!

believe me, I have heard many other stories about that buyer and he'll find a way to get his money back from paypal after he's got the guitar, claiming it never arrived, arrived broken due to bad packing, is a fake etc... etc... If the seller has any sense, he'll refund the guy and have nothing more to do with him.

No offense, but I've never had as much trouble with getting stuff as I have from Canada. I don't know if the US Postal Service has some sick vendetta or what, but it seems like there's ALWAYS some issue. If they say it's going to take 10 days for something to arrive, it takes 20. The last time or two I've ordered guitars from there, I've gotten hit with a duty tax about two weeks after delivery. Always an unpleasant surprise, and this doesn't seem to happen from other countries, for some reason.

Crypto, I'm talking about the other way, shipping into Canada.

Shipping via post is really slow, granted, especially when Canada Customs has to sit around and drink coffee and look at each package. When I bring stuff in by mail, it takes about 2 weeks. But I know that when using USPS -> Cda Post.

But buying a guitar, I always use courier, usually overnight FedEx, and it is here tomorrow.

And when we buy off the bay, using PayPal, you still get American Greenbacks, we get the exchange hit.

btw, if you're buying an American made guitar out of Canada, if you got charged duty, they ripped you off. Or a Canadian made guitar, which falls under Nafta.
