What pups do I need to restore my Custom to "original"

I bought this natural finsish LPC this past Friday for $2000 and want to get it back to stock. Any ideas on the pups I need? I did get an older pair of pups with it (not originals) and the EMG s that are in it plus the original pots. Any input is appreciated. Great site for great guitars. Thanks

My bad I didnt realize I didnt put the year. Its an 84

Re: What pups do I need to restore my Custom to "original"

They're either the Bill Lawrence era Gibson pickups, or Shaw design Gibson pickups. I don't *think* that they're T-tops, but that's also a possibility. My '87 Custom came with Shaws (that were introduced in the early 80s).

T-tops and Shaws are highly regarded, the Lawrence pickups not so much so. There's a lot of discussion about pickups and what was used when on the "other" Les Paul forum.

Tell us about the older pickups that came with it?

These are the "Shaw" pickups without covers...

I put the gold covers on the Duncan Antiquity humbuckers when I put 'em on this guitar...

A quick email to Gibson w/ your serial number should tell you for sure.

Looking back at your other post... an '84 would have had Gibson's Shaw design pickups.

According to them that knows, you might find a set for $300-400.

300-400 in some cases. Go on FleaBay type in Shaw Pickups and then go to the left and hit completed auctions, that will give ya a rough.

People are starting to realize what they are. I think its even driving the other patent number stamped pups (P490s, etc) up in price since its hard sometimes to determine if you have a Shaw or not. I've seen some likely Shaws go recently in the $150 range. Matched sets fetch a bit more per pup.

Deffinetly an 81 at the bridge.. Neck seems to be an 85 with the gold logo but could be a 60 with a grey logo.. Im not sure on that one.
