57' classic plus question (lill story)

Hey gang.
I bought a '57 classic and the matching '57 plus the other day from my local long and mcquad. When i got home i and began to install them i noticed the Plus pick up was the neck version and not the bridge version... so... wrong pole spacing for the bridge.

I took it back to make the switch for the proper bridge version and much to my surprise was told that gibson only makes it in the neck postion configuration. say what!? i tried every store in my area and they all only carry the 57 classic plus in the neck configuration. each store looked it up for me and all told me the same thing... 57 classic plus only available in the one configuration. neck. no mention what so ever of a bridge version.

If someone could clear this up for me I would be happy.
They're either right and im a huge noob or they're wrong and shouldnt be working at a guitar store.... and im still a noob for not knowing

thanks in advance for the info.

Far as I know the '57's, plus or otherwise, only come in vintage spacing, which is narrower by today's standards.

Re: 57' classic plus question (lill story)

All Gibson PAF style pickups have neck spacing. Because ALL original PAFs have neck spacing. All this "R" and "T" spacing started in the 90s with the 490R/490T/498T and the 496R/500T etc. ALL the 57 Classic and Classic Plus, Burstbucker 1, 2 and 3 have neck spacing. And most boutique winders who make PAF style pickups use neck spacing. There was NO bridge spacing in the vintage years. Some Jazz guitars had even narrower spacing in the neck postition and normal PAF spacing in the bridge however. There is nothing wrong with your 57 Classic plus. You have graduated from the Gibson USA to the Gibson Customshop specs.

Hey! It clearly states on the Gibson website that the 57 Classic Plus is the bridge companion to the Classic 57!

Yes, but it is not bridge spacing. The BB2 is the bridge companion to the BB1; and the BB3 is the bridge companion to the BB2. Any and all of these 5 pickups can be used in EITHER position, they all have the same spacing.

Only because it is wound a litttle hotter . very little. Not because the spacing is different. Which is what some people like these days, in the old days guitars came with all pickup the same. Fender Strats and Gibson LP anyway. Teles had different pups for the neck and bridge.
Other models and makes must have had different from each other pups also , but can't think of them right now
