Joan Jett Melody Maker

Wow! I think I got a case of gas for this guitar! It is nice looking imo. White wash, ebony fret board, mini-grovers , Double cutaway, Zebra Humbucker overwound! American Made with a case under 900 bux!!!! Sweetwater has it listed for 639.97!!!!! Well Joan Jett had some cool tunes I enjoyed as a youth, not her biggest fan, but what a guitar for the Price! This thing is money.

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

I'd love to play one. I went nuts when they first came out, but when you're broke too many other guitars have time to run by you. I can't make up my mind, but I'm looking for a less expensive player than my LP, and if I played one of these and really liked it I may reach. Sure seems sweet though, I'd buy it man!!!

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

Ive been playing my SG alot lately which in turn got me thinking about the JJ/MM. I may just pick one up but I would love to play one first...plus the ebony fretboard is a big plus imo.

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

It's cool and a great price. Looks to me that the photo shows that fretboard as looking like a rosewood more than an ebony one, could be just the photo though.. I just wish the headstock was the traditional Gibson shape, never was a big fan of that type headstock but it ain't no deal breaker that's for sure.

Notice the old school late 60's witch hat knobs, I have those on my 69 SG. Sweet! Is that a 68 or 69 reissue?

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

Ya Zakk but in thinking of changing out that humbucker for something say p-90ish and maybe a bigsby we'll see. Plus I got my double humbucker LP already so I wanted to try something different sounding. Tex, I hear ya , Ive seen a couple that don't look so ebony, gonna have to see it before I buy it for sure!

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

I dont know the year of JJ's melody maker its a 61-65 ish is my guess, Funny thing about the pick guard. Gibsons site sez its period correct but for the life of me I've yet to see that pick guard on any melody maker. Anyone else wanna chime in on this one?

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

I hear where you guys are coming from with the one pick up complaint. For me Im thinking more along the lines of its a melody maker with an overwound humbucker. Although I think the melody maker has a two pick up configuration lets see....yup found one though IMO not as cool as the JJ model

That's an older model, the current MM only has one element. But still a great guitar, and less than $400.

Not correct for a stock melody maker but correct as Joan's original guitar goes. Joan's guitar was given to her by Eric Carmen of the Rasberries, when she first got it it had 2 pickups.

wrong
they reissued both single and double pickup models.

the new 1's are cool, but they are nothing like a real 59/60, nothing like them, besides looks.

I busted my ass to get to the point that I can watch Aerosmith with my arm around Jan Jett.

Well it's definitely inspiring to see the stuff you post.

Wonder if there's any way to get a hold of some ofthose vintage style pickup rings on her MM's?

Re: Joan Jett Melody Maker

Damn, that JJ melody maker looks real nice!! I'm seriously considering investing in one of those. Its bang for the bucks! Maybe I should swap in a SD Alnico 2 pro humbucker and use it exclusively for a slide guitar... That could be nice also becuase of the double cutaway makes access to the higher frets easier...
Well, after watching this vid:
..I'm convinced I need a melody maker too!! It actually sounds like such a brilliant guitar!
