Re: raw Strat body

Warmoth

Ash (Fraxinus americana):
We have two very different types of Ash: Northern Hard Ash and Swamp Ash (Southern Soft Ash).

Northern Hard Ash is very hard, heavy and dense. A Strat® body will normally weigh 5 lbs. and up. Its density contributes to a bright tone and a long sustain which makes it very popular. Its color is creamy, but it also tends to have heartwood featuring pink to brown tints. The grain pores are open and it takes a lot of finish to fill them up.

Re: raw Strat body

Thx. I have looked around alot, and I think maybe Warmoth is my best bet. Altho, it would have to be the heavy Ash cause a buddy of mine has 2 Warmoth light Ash bodies and they feel like Basswood to me. I am thinking of trying to make a copy of my old 1976 Fender Strat. And the body it had was a pretty weighty Ash.

Thx again.

Re: raw Strat body

I have been a huge DUNE fan for like.... ever. And back when the internet was more or less new, I needed a name no one else had. Every time I tried to register a name on forums etc, they were always already taken, so I started using either Shataan, or Shai`tan.

The name is another Fremen name for the great Worm of Arrakis. lolol Shai`hulud. It has stuck with me ever since.

About the type of body for a Strat I am looking for, I want something that has these contours.

Ya see that tummy cut and arm contour? To me, THAT is a Strat done right. This is an early 70s I believe. I need to find something heavy Ash, with these kind of countours.

Re: raw Strat body

I bought a Mick Mars Tele body from KnE Guitars Welcome to KnE Guitars in Alder with Strat body contours very much like those you're after. Check their stock Strat bodies, they will also do custom work, choice of woods and the quality is excellent.

Re: raw Strat body

I checked out KnEs site. No pics kinda bummed me out.

For pickups I think I`ll go with a Texas Special loaded pickguard set. I saw some of these on ebay. Now I gotta look around for a good Strat bridge. Anyone got any ideas for a good Strat bridge that stays fairly intune? Thx.

+1 for KnE.

I've used their bodys on several projects and they've all been top notch.
Warmoth is ridiculously overpriced IMO.

I had a hard ash strat back in the 70's it was
heavy as hell, and sounded great, lots of punch
and treble

Re: raw Strat body

Yup, I had a hard ash 76 strat. It rocked. I am reconsidering ordering from B Hefner. Did a review search and some peeps get amazing product from them, and many don`t. So I am still on the search. Doh! I will check out USACG. And ebay of course.

addendum: thinking about maybe getting Musikraft to make me a Northern (hard) ash 60s body. Their version has the deep belly cut contour and arm contour that I like. Anyone ever see any of Muskrafts bodies? Thx.
