What sequence should I link my pedals?

I've got four pedals I'm playing with: a Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble, a Boss DS-1 Distortion, a Digitech Bad Monkey, and a Dunlop Wah pedal. I presume that assembling the pedals in different orders will result in different sounds, no? If that's the case, any suggestions on how I should line them up?

I would love a nice jangly clean sound (hence the Chorus), but also want to have some proper growl. And I do mean growl, not blistering distortion.

Any recos?

Guitar -> wah -> chorus -> bad monkey -> ds-1 -> amp

If you have an fx loop, put only the chorus in there and keep the rest as above minus the chorus.

Re: What sequence should I link my pedals?

Brilliant, that's how I had it set up. Just needed to be sure. Thanks for that.

Do I need to unplug the connecting cables between the pedals when not in use? I'd like to not drain the batteries when I'm not playing.

Re: What sequence should I link my pedals?

I was wondering that myself. I think that no matter whether the pedal is true bypass or not, if a cable is in the input jack (output doesn't matter), then it drains the battery.

I never use batteries unless they are an older
model that has not 9v adapter

When I bought my 1spot, it came with an adapter that looks like a 9v battery clip. It was provided in case you have an older battery-only pedal. I don't have any yet, but I've been collectin' a plenty!

Sell it. Lol...

Anyways, I'll never play without adapters... it just saves a ton of money in the long run. Get an adapter!

I prefer my wah & phase before any dirtboxes ! ... When I had lots of pedals , I put a few of the noisey ones in a Looper box !!! I always ran with Dirt , time based ( flange , chorus , ) next in chain , Delay last ...

Re: What sequence should I link my pedals?

give each one a number, then do the math of all possible combonations of those numbers... set each pedal do the setting your normally run it at.... try all combonations and record in writing what you think of each combo, pick the one you like best....

Wah-Bad Monkey-DS1-CE5

Reasoning: I like having the Wah interact directly with the guitar's pickups, which is why it's first. Putting an overdrive pedal in front of a distortion pedal gives the option of adding more overtones to the distortion pedal (something I picked up from reading Pete Cornish interviews, who builds pedalboards for the pros). Putting the chorus last keeps the clarity of the effect in tact. Plus, you'll be able to use it with the dirt boxes without the tone sounding like sludge.
