Hey Guys,
Whats with all the Squire bashing, the best strat I`ve ever played WAS indeed a Squire. The Vintage Modified Series was a stroke of genius ! Share you experiences with Squire, pic too please

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I played a Fender Squier Series Strat (Fender on the Headstock with a small logo says Squier) yesterday with some of the guys at my local music store. It was awesome

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I've never been a snob when it comes to Fender style guitars - my 1970 Strat is the best single coil fitted guitar I've got but my Chinese Stagg Jaguar-style copy is a really good, playable guitar and once I changed the pick-ups to SD's it sounds really good too! If it plays well and sounds good then it's a good guitar!

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I have had many Squires, and still have a couple. I also have a Custom Shop Fender 1960 Relic and I gotta say, it doesn't cost ten times what a Squire costs for nothing. A Squire set up "right" is actually a great little guitar though. I'm just getting more into American guitars in my old age.

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I know there are lots of flavors of Squier. (MIM, MIJ,MIK...etc)
I have a first generation MIJ squier strat. For $85, a great way to get to fenderville w/o spending and arm and a leg. They are mass produced. I think you're going to have to search high and low for a good one, but they exist. |

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I got a '51 Modified, which I'm getting ready to swap pickups and re-wire, but I still dig it the way it is. I also have a Butterscotch Blonde Tele (which was gutted and completely re-wired) and a mid-90s Strat. All pretty cool guitars.
I do prefer my Fenders, but the Squiers are all a lot of fun to play. - D

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
Couple of year back I had enough for a mexican strat burning a hole in my pocket, long story short, played about 10, none said a word to me, disappointed, I made my way out the shop, right next to the door was a squire, I picked it up and it was spot on, spoke volumes to me. It was a dream to play, low action, no buzz or choking, I've sold it now, my mate pestered me for it after I put a jb h/b in the bridge, the fucking pick up was worth more than the guitar !!
any way since then my wife bought me a real deal usa job, to be honest, close my eyes I could be playing the squire !! check out my fingerpicking squire thru a crappy zoom g2 SoundClick artist: pond life - page with MP3 music downloads here's a pic of the old and the new. Moral of the story, 'there's nothing wrong with squire's !!! FRANK ![]()

would you have a top squire or a bottom mex strat?
if you gonna play strat, you gotta go usa. below that, if the shit fits, wear it.

Until you play one of these, I don't think you can comment on the quality. Sounds and plays just as good as my $1500 USA strat, but for 299. Image nabbed from Ebay

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
Fender recently put out a MIM Jazzmaster that has a few GREAT updates (Tune-omatic style bridge, hotter PU's and an improved trem angle, if you've played a jazzy you know.)
However, they aren't thrifty about the price...They list at $899 I think they're about $600 on the street. These are great guitars and still a deal, but not quite the deal I'd hoped for. The word is out. The MIM ones aren't bad at all. IMO with squiers, they skimp on the hardware, but most of them can be made very playable with some good tuners and a set-up. |

I've owned a number of Squiers over the years, some were quite nice, others, not so hot. Right now I have two. One is an 80's MIJ Squier P-bass I picked up around '89-'90 for a hundred bucks:
![]() I also have what started out as a Bullet Strat, but is pretty far afield at this point, again bought for a hundred bucks, but just this year:

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I have a Squire Mini Strat that I got used for $70. It's a great couch guitar do to it's size. I had a setup done on it with .11's and it plays fantastic. You do need the heavier gauge strings with the short scale length since thinner strings end up being floppy and don't have enough tension to stay in tune. No problems holding tune with .11's. The fretboards are surprisingly nice on the mini's. The electronics aren't great but could be easily upgraded for little money and you'd have a great sounding travel guitar. Since I use it with the Smokey amp I'm not too worried about upgrading the electronics.
The mini Ibanez are pretty killer too. Last edited by Wuchak; 10-10-2008 at 12:49 PM. |

Re: Squire By Fender, Why The Hell Not
I have had my MIK Squre Strat since '89. Got it for my 18th birthday. I played 3 in total, the first was ok, 2nd had fret probs and mine was stuck up in a corner, long forgotten. I played her and she sung even though her stings were rusty. We just "connected" brought her, took her home along with a Boss CE-2 chorus. Brought her new strings set her up and love to play her. When I left home my mother put her in the garden shed for 3 months I went apeshit as we all know what changes in humidity do to guitars, well it did, the pickups and selector changed colour, apart from rusty strings she was as good as I left her, she is a little dinged and scratched, has a skinny neck compaired to most put plays well. The only things that has been changed is the vol pot and wires to the jack plug
