Software for creating your own backing tracks???
I'd like to create some backing tracks to practice scales, solos etc over.
Simple key changes (bluesy type stuff) - tracks with drums and say a bassline (which the software creates for you). I've tried Band In Box but didn't like that - it didn't seem very flexible. Is there a particular package that's considered the best? |

I like band in a box. You just type in the chords and go - it generates the bass, drums, etc. You can change tempo and keys for practice. Now it has real instruments, I only have the real drums but it works very well.
What did you want it to do that it didn't do for you? |

I used Band In a Box while I was at school.
The sounds are like a 70's porno B movie but it's good enough for practice

Re: Software for creating your own backing tracks???
BIAB confuses the hell out of me. I'm a "computer geek" and I can't make sense of that program. I wanted to put in some simple progressions and have it repeat that progression...I spent 20 minutes perusing the manual trying to find a way to do that and couldn't find it, so I gave up. And that wasn't the first time i gave it a go. The other times I decide to dig into it, I had the same issue. When you have to spend 20 minutes just to figure out how to repeat a few measures infinitely, you lose your focus on what you were setting out to do in the first place.
If anybody can tell me an easy way to create, say a I-IV-V progression and have it repeat, I'd be grateful.

Re: Software for creating your own backing tracks???
I have band in a box and have to admit it doesn't sound amazing but if you just want to use it to improve your playing it's ok. I haven't researched for a while but I find it hard to believe theres not something online.

Re: Software for creating your own backing tracks???
I'm okay with the sound of the MIDI instruments...I can live with that. I would find it useful for throwing quick progressions together for studying modes, scales and that sort of thing. I just can find a quick, easy way to throw together a quick progression.
