Did any of the original bursts have birds eye figuring on the top?

Did any of the original '58 - '60 bursts have birds eye figuring on the top. I've never seen it and was just wondering. If so, does anyone have any pictures?

Thanks, jd

Here's a '59 with a lot of birdseye in the top.

I've played that Les paul before. It's in my favourite store Jacksons Rare Guitars in australia.Sold for $750 000 Aus dollars.Had a really thin neck for a 59.Felt thinner than the Custom shop's 60's I sell where I work.

Hi Shannon... are you positive it sold for $750k?

It's still listed as being for sale on the website and I can't imagine anyone forking out that kind of money when you could buy one just as nice for half that amount.

Re: Did any of the original bursts have birds eye figuring on the top?

Hello
My friends who work there and the owner of the store Steve Jackson whom I'm also friends with told me it was sold. The guy may have changed his mind but it's definetley
not out on the shop showroom. The reason why someone would pay 750k is because you don't see many 'bursts in Australia and the people who buy these guitars in Australia are all CEOs and lawyers and many of them don't play guitars so most likely they have bought it because they know that they'll get there money back. That and there aren't many Birdseye 'Bursts around.

AU$375 k for a 1959 Les Paul Standard, in Australia? I doubt it.

I am not really in the vintage wood market, so I am happy to be corrected on this, but from what I've seen of the relative prices of the same gear in Australia and the U.S. I really don't think you'd get a 59 burst for AU$375 k in Australia. Maybe a very nice one in the U.S. for US$375 k.

Re: Did any of the original bursts have birds eye figuring on the top?

Well the proof is in the pudding and a mate of mine bought one not long ago for less than that even when the economy was far stronger than it currently is... a one owner near mint guitar too.

The market is down, there's very few serious buyers about and who knows if/when the vintage bubble will burst... all things to consider.

Anyway if Steve gets his asking price then good luck to him.

Re: Did any of the original bursts have birds eye figuring on the top?

Correct me if I'm wrong fellas, in 2004 Jacksons had a plain top brown sunburst '60 for A$200k..........so $750k now does seem rich to me.But as Red Baron says hey if it sells at that good on 'em for getting what would be a phenomenally good almost world record price!!
From what I can gather of the market for these worldwide the better figured top LPs have changed hands(been brokered) at between US$450-500k.This is prior to the current economic recession.
