Gibson's discontinued SG GT…

I've actually owned several SG's but have never really bonded with any of them.

I had the opportunity to play a friends SG GT last week and I have to say…. I was quite impressed!

The fit and finish was excellent. The ebony fret board was luxurious and the fretwork was A+!

I think they really did a fantastic job with this model considering the upgrades:

Locking bridge
Locking tuners
Coil taps
Neutrik cable jack (better placement too!)
Dual truss rod
High pass tone filter
Graph Tech nut

I, for one, really like the scoop as a tailpiece…. And the racing stripe theme is pretty cool! Needless to say, I now own a spectacular Candy Orange with white stripes

The jury is still out on the pickups. I may be swapping them for a set of 57's

So…. Has anyone here had the "pleasure" of test driving a GT?

Not at all... she weighs in at a scant 8 lbs and is actually quite well balanced. I thought the same thing until I strapped her on!

Re: Gibson's discontinued SG GT…

That scoop is supposed to be removable, I thought.

I had the Les Paul GT No Flames, I loved it but I just couldn't bond with it.

Yes, it can be removed, however, it actually serves a pupose... it's the stop tail!

I also thought that it could be removed until I performed a string change and realized that it was not just cosmetic...
