Question PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

Hi fellows,Anyone of you might have the idear what can be a reasonable price for a 52 gold top converted to 57?

The neck was replaced in 80's by gibson by using the same old growth mahogany.the body has been rounted for Pafs, and beem refinished in nitrocellulose.the rest of the parts came from 57--mid 60's

The guitar sounds pretty sweet, hate to let it go.But currently in kinda of financial crisis.Wish it came out for a good price. Will post some pic later on.

Cheers

Re: PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

Your PM is not on....Feel free to call me direct if you want 516-889-6895 both for advice and perhaps selling it. PM me your number and I'll call you

My main questions are:
1. Who did the conversion?
2. Who did the paint job?
3. Having old growth wood neck in the 80's to me is not the same as having the original neck on the guitar from the 50's that's a big downer
4. It is routed for PAF's...are there PAF's in the guitar now?
5. What parts are original to the 52? The pick guard? Knobs? PUP rings? Back plastic? Harness? Switch tip? Truss rod cover etc...

I have a Mirabella 52/57 with all original parts including the neck except for the PUP rings...easily $28k or more IMHO and I have seen them go more and of course less depending on the condition and how many parts are original

Hope this helps

Re: PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

Hi Cream

first let me welcome you to forum

secondly have a read through the thread a few before this one called "how much is this worth 1952 refin" and pick up a few pointers.

Basically i can see the same thing happening to this thread where people give you various figures that do nothing to confuse you even more

so if you truly want to sell the guitar take as many pictures as possible (including cavities) list out all the parts and what is original and post it on ebay with a link in the members classified section

Its the only way of getting the best price for the guitar IMHO

Re: PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

cherrs guys!!! Will do as told.

I traded in 3 of my guitars for this gold top 6 month ago,not very happy with what they treated on the guitar but i do love the sound. The Pafs are amazing. And yes it has Pafs on it.My guitars are easily worth about 10k pounds,R9 from 95,Murphy aged R9 from 06,Clapton ES335 replica

The guitar not the 'refin' to me,something kinda restored.

Im based in london Uk.so all jod was done in 'londoncustomguitars' 25 denmark street.

Thefishingline&The Stumble,thanks you guys,what a nice forum,haha

Re: PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

Ebay it for the best sales potential with photos of cavities and parts identified is also my suggestion for your best response, and don't let someone beat you done with any crap, if they think your out of touch, let them go and move on to the real buyer.

bridge pickup is just a killer.wish i could keep the pafs....

anyone could tell me dose the old wood really sounds incrediblly good or the Pafs can do it all???

Wood and PAFs its all relative.. if you got a good piece of wood then its going to make a difference.. same with the pups.. and when you got both.. KILLER TONE!

I went to see Knopfler at Royal Albert Hall a while back and his Burst was just pure tone..really deeeep!

his burst + suhr moded Plexi+his finger=sound from heaven.

the warm up band sounds great as well, the guitarist were using a gibson firebird if im not mistaken. wondering their names.

Im in love with burst all started from EC on BEANO,hideaway&all your love are my fave

Re: PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

Awesome goldtop. If you don't need to sell it, it would be best to keep it in my opinion. You can try to sell it, but more likely than not, you're not going to get offers even as high as a few months ago. Things were pretty bad a few months ago, but they're even worse now.

Anytime I've ever sold gear, I've never had to wait more than 2 days to get a good price and sell the item. These past few weeks, I've had items up for a lot more than 2 days and the items that sold went for a good bit less than I had expected to get.

I don't sell items as expensive as your goldtop, so maybe higher end buyers don't have as much problem shelling out during a recession. But, anybody with money in the stock market has probably lost a chunk of change so who knows how many people are willing to shell out big dough for guitars at this time.

Re: PRICE for 52 Gold Top Convertion

That looks nice. My guess is that it's probably still worth about what it owes you (£10K UKP for a 52 converted and a pair of 50s PAFs), however the neck replacement might be a problem. The man to ask is Rich H.

Member of this forum, all round good guy, and might even know someone that would be interested...worth a call.
