Greetings from a new poster
Hey gents,
Just wanted to introduce myself. Been playing the "F" word guitars since the '60's but though I do love my Tele, I'm looking at Les Pauls now. Just had a nice visit at Centre City Music in San Diego and picked out two nice guitars. Just can't decide which! A '58 RI VOS or a '57 RI Gold Top! The gold top flat rocked and had a nice bluesy tone for, well, uh, the blues and jazz. the '58 rocked really nicely, perhaps not a good all around tone, but intonated and played well off the shelf. If I had closed my eyes and picked I probably would have chosen the Gold Top, to be honest, though I went in looking for '58's. Any help, suggestions, comments or just a "hello" would be appreciated! Thanks, SkyPilot |

Hmm, I got my R7 at Centre City Music. Let's see are you going to spend more time looking at it or listening to it. Not that there's anything wrong with either. Either way, you can't go wrong with Saul. Oh and WELCOME!

I say look, shop, and play all you can.
Hell, even let the guys at the store play for you a little and just listen. Personal taste here, skip the whole contrived VOS artificially aged bullshit and get a good guitar that SOUNDS, PLAYS & LOOKS good to you. |

Re: Greetings from a new poster
I've been playing since the seventies and recently went with the Historics, which are currently mostly the VOS line. For me they blow away the regular production models and most of the Custom Shop's other models. Something about them just works right.
First one out? Go with the Gold top since that was the one you seemed to like the best, but as was ssaid above, you can change the sound some if you really love a body.
