Re: Strats

The Strat in the picture belongs to a buddy. It is a Jimmie Vaughan MIM. Pretty kick ass strat, minus the horribly cheap pickguard. If you like a "V" style neck it is pretty cool. So there is a strat you can look at.

Mark

edited to add: the pickguard pictured is a replacement and it is a good three ply.

Re: Strats

Can't beat a good American Strat.

I have two I built from American parts.
From left,
Fender humbuckers from 72 Tele Deluxe RI, with Rosewood Hwy One neck.
Fender Dove P-90's in an Ash body with Maple Hwy One neck.
Both have all Gibson pots and switches.

Also,
1993 American Standard
2005 American Ash Tele
Both are completely stock - no mods needed.

Re: Strats

I have a sort of "Frankenstein" strat...

Body is from a '56 Relic Strat (hated the thin neck)
Neck is a custom-made from Fender '62 Reissue neck
Pickups are by Mike Detemple (Sweet Spots)
String saddles and trem block are milled titanium
Nut is made from fossilized Mastodon ivory

It's a sweet guitar--best strat I've ever played. Mike DeTemple set it up for me about 4 years ago, and I haven't changed a thing except strings.

Here she is with a couple of sisters:

Re: Strats

Not sure about your price range, but the Eric Johnson strat is a great guitar. If you haven't played one yet, do yourself a favor and check one out.

Re: Strats

+1 on the EJ Strat...

If you can get a used one, get it.

Best Strat I've ever played right out of the box. My buddy owns one, and it's amazing.

Re: Strats

The MIJ RI series are hard to beat for a midprice Strat...I pulled the neck off one to go on my naturally reliced (1000+ gigs) '80's MIA 57 RI.

Re: Strats

A new Japanese Strat is tough to get in the USA.
The choices are American or Mexican, then Korea and the rest of the Pacific Rim.

Japan builds their stuff primarily for the home market and some export from what I understand.
Odd stuff still comes here, like a Strat XII and a few other models.

If you're in South America, I have no idea what your source would be.
I'm guessing American is the most expensive still.....

There's Jomo with his Custom Shop porn

Here's a blues machine for ya. Too bad the old vintage tuners can't hold a tune for more than a couple songs, but the tone's to die for:

Yes in the 80s the fender squire series and the Squire by fender used not only MIA pickups but , when Fender was sold to the employee's alot of the tools and jigs for manufacturing some Fender guitars was sold to Japan.
There is a web site all about the MIJ fenders I will try to remember what it is and post back.

Re: Strats

OK ... let's talk about Strats ...

My CIJ ( Tokai ) Fender ST54-120 from the DiMarzio Collection ... for me in CS quality, although I've had an American CS Hardtail in my hands which I'm regretting to have passed it until today ...

... and my Frankenstein-Strat with VanZandt pups and MIA Fender Deluxe RW neck and MIM '50s body - steel trem ...

... BTW - my favourite currently ... all sounds possible execpt a HB sound ...
But that was intended.

My MIM 60th Anniversary is a very nice guitar,
after putting in Noisless pickups and TBX it sounds
just like a clapton guitar

I've once owned a MIM Powerhouse Strat (Pewter) with that TBX mod ... I'm afraid I couldn't appreciate what this guitar could effect at that time, because I was too much focussed on LesPauls ...
Nowadays I could kick myself selling it ...
