Re: Epiphone Casino anyone have one
Comparing the Epi Casino to a Gibson E335 is a little like comparing apples to oranges. The Casino is more akin to the E330 while the Epi Dot is closer to the E335. Yeah that’s it, think John Lennon (Casino) vs Chuck Berry (E335).
The Casino is a hollow-bodied guitar with two P-90 pickups. The ES-335 is a semi-hollow body guitar and has humbucker pickups; it has a center block to promote sustain and reduce feedback. The Casino is lighter and louder when played without an amplifier, but also is much more prone to feedback than the E335. The tone of the Casino runs from mello and warm to raunchy and nasty, and overall is generally thinner and more trebly than the E335 with humbuckers. Think the entire range of music done by Lennon on a Casino. This Casino is not good for hard rock or metal, but is perfect for Britpop, 60`s, Jazz, and Indie.

Re: Epiphone Casino anyone have one
I had a chance to play one (casino) and I was very impressed...as strange as it sounds I think it could be a better axe..with an electronic upgrade
I have not sat down and played them at the same time but, I have been playing a 335 a bit lately... so, my first imperssion...is that the 335 has a more complex tone that is not as smooth...but, the casino is more balanced and not as harmonically rich....I have to think to a large part this has to do with th PU and electronics.... also, the 335 does play a bit nicer but the casino in no way is bad... I was very suprised that I liked it so muc given that I really dislike both the pass and the sheriton.. I did at one point hold up both guitars and strumed them acoustically...the casino was more balanced where as the 335 had resonce peak... who knowes (I have to think that the quality of the casino is in part due to that fact they are "handmade" in China....which brings up a question if one should buy one at all...of course how can you not buy things fron china)

Re: Epiphone Casino anyone have one
A nice little story for you...my first "real" guitar. I was in junior high and I found this classified for an Epiphone guitar, Gibson amp and a Shure mic. I checked it out and it was this old Epiphone hollow body. 64' I believe. The amp was a black Gibson, 1x15 SS, 80 watts. $350 for all of it. I took it. The guitar had some serious finish checking, the chrome P/U covers (dog eared P90's) were all tarnished and dull.
I played it...it rocked. Sounded good and distorted real easy. The pickups were just nice and "dirty". But I moved on, traded it for an SG and the rest is history. I never knew exactly what model it was until recently. It was a Casino Elitist. Pretty sure it was a 1964. I'd give my molars to have that one back. Edit: Did a little more research. It was the 1965 Casino Elitist. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/docum...518413&index=0

Re: Epiphone Casino anyone have one
I have a Dot Studio is has some nice Alnico open faced humbuckers and it plays and sounds very nice, I found a third party varitone switch on ebay so I had that installed and it makes it a very versatile instrument.
