Looking into upgrading my G&L Bluesboy, throw some suggestions out!

Any suggestions for this!? I want this to be a balls to the wall tone machine.

So far, some ideas I have are a Seymour Dunca 59' for the neck. The bridge, idk what to get because I have never looked into upgrading single-coils before. I want something with some good ole' Tele TWANG to it. I really liked the Alnico-3 Tele pick-up that was in my Hwy-1, it was kind of a "hot" Tele pick-up I guess. Maybe I'll run across one of those for sale for dirty cheap.

I also was thining about doing caps and pots being as they made such a huge difference on my LP (and isn't even as good as it can get!).

So lets hear some ideas guys! I have never had a semi-hollow before, so maybe is some cool semi-hollow stuff I can do to it haha

Re: Looking into upgrading my G&L Bluesboy, throw some suggestions out!

Here is my blue baby, the best strat I have played
I also got a killer deal on it and that is the only reason I have it
It nails the SRV sound on the neck/middle pickup position through my vox

Congrats on your new axe

I want my single-coils though!

Although, those seem like really cool pick-ups.

Re: Looking into upgrading my G&L Bluesboy, throw some suggestions out!

I never really thought that swapping out G&L pickups as an "upgrade"
I think the G&L MFD pickups are great. Leo Fender was a fantastic pickup designer.

The MFD pickups are what make G&Ls unique. They work really well with the volume and tone controls.

If your Bluesboy is a USA model the neck pickup is a SD Seth Lover Model.
So, the SD 59 won't be that much of a change. maybe a little more middy than the Lover.
Which is a basic PAF design.
A custom tuned WB would be a good way to go.

If you really want to swap out the bridge for more twang you can usually snag a used Fender 52 reissue bridge pickup for a decent price (cheap).

SD Broadcaster bridge pickups are pretty nice.

There is also some nice stuff from Lindy Fralin

If you feel like spending a little Don mare winds some nice tele pickups
buckcannon.com/

I get more twang by rolling back the volume on my G&L Classic, and it pummels at full.

Re: Looking into upgrading my G&L Bluesboy, throw some suggestions out!

Mine isn't a USA model, but it is still really, really nice.

I'm not absolutely for sure what I am going to do, as of right now, it gets by pretty good, so I'm not in a hurry at all. I just want to see what some other G&L guys are doing to theirs.

Your g&l tele looks pretty similar to mine. Is your clear orange as well

Re: Looking into upgrading my G&L Bluesboy, throw some suggestions out!

i just bought a USA model over the w/e. sounds great right out of the box. what is there to improve.

If you have the Tribute series which i think you mentioned then outfit it like the MIA model with a Seth Lover Neck and G&L MFD in the bridge. It has a slight SC buzz but its all tone and fattens up nice with the tone rolled back about 1/4 turn

this is the most tone and vol responsive guitar that i ever played. one little nudge goes a long way
