Guitar World has too much of a "metal" and "shredder" slant for me.

Guitar World definitely caters to the metal crowd. I subscribe to both Guitar Player and Guitar World.

Re: Guitar Magazines

And Guitar Player definitely has too much of a Jazz slant in most of its lessons.

I liked GuitarOne before it went away...

Re: Guitar Magazines

+1
GuitarOne was the best mag around.....got me back into playing when it first came out...still have that issue...somewhere! I played guitar in my teens and thru my early 20's..in and out of bands..then I just put the guitar down and let everyday life take hold! It wasnt until GuitarOne came out and inspired me to start playing again! Now I'm in my 40's and playing in a rock band again....and damn proud of it!

I prefer Guitarist mag. The subscription is a bit spendy in the US though.

Re: Guitar Magazines

I subscribe to both Guitar Player and Guitar World, but for educational content, I prefer Guitar Techniques and Total Guitar from the UK. They are pricey here in the U.S. because they are "imported". I've considered getting a subscription to one or the other (GT or TG), but so far, I just check into my local bookstore about once a month and pick up the issues that interest me.

Re: Guitar Magazines

If you want lessons then the best magazine for that is Guitar Techniques.

Guitar Techniques

Right now for me it's Guitar World and Total Guitar.

Re: Guitar Magazines

Guitar World is my favorite. My subscription includes a CD with each issue. You can see videos on your computer that cover the written lessons in the magazine and you can see the latest gear in action and reviewed. I'm a metal player and Guitar World caters to metal players, but the lessons and techniques can be used in any style.

I subscribed too but I do not get the CD when my mag is delivered! Needless to say I was pissed!!! Did you have to pay extra or did you get a special deal to have the CD included? Oh well.....no big deal... the subscription price isn't going to break the bank!!! Just wondering.....

There are two different subscriptions: CD and no-CD. The CD sub costs $25, the no-CD only costs $12. You must have accidentally subscribed to the cheaper one, or there was a mistake at the Guitar World HQ.

And will cost you about $2500/yr. LOL. But it is quite pricey, but worth it. They have the best transcriptions and lessons.

I think most of them do to a certain extent. I get Guitar Player and Vintage Guitar right now. VG is much more focused on the equipment and less on playing it, but I like the articles and there is some amazing guitar porn in there. At some point I am going to go with Tone Report, but it is a bit pricey and I can't exactly justify it right now.

Guitar Techniques.

It's awesome for helping my overall playing skill and range IMO.
