Guns n' Roses - Paradise City....A big challenge??
ok so I've decided I'm going to learn Paradise City by Guns.
![]() I printed off a cracking Guitar Pro sheet music download of the track and am going to focus solely on Slash's parts (obviously). I've had a look through the tab and for the most part it looks pretty manageable - there are some bits towards the end including the solo that look bloody difficult though - mainly in terms of the speed of playing due to a lot of hammer on's and pull off's. Have any of you lot learned this one? any tips??? |

No real tip but the end is really hard to get right.
The way I learn solos is just take 2-3 bars at a time, "master" that and then move on to the next 2-3 bars and I also use software like Amazing X (OS X) to help me play along until I'm up to speed.

its very easy. its basically just alot of pull offs and hammer ons, along with roll ups and downs in the e minor pentatonic scale

Re: Guns n' Roses - Paradise City....A big challenge??
I actually had more problems with the verse than the solos
![]() But there is still this one chromatic thing near the end that I haven't really gotten

Re: Guns n' Roses - Paradise City....A big challenge??
wow good luck, i have learned sweet child but im stuck on the final solo, (the fast bit just before the wah is introduced) its the first time i have tried to learn a solo, but i just cant get it! i think speed plays an important role in slashs solo's.
but good luck! |

Re: Guns n' Roses - Paradise City....A big challenge??
My classical guitar teacher reccommends learning songs backwards. He says he prefers this way because that way when your jamming the song your dont get stuck later on. For example start from the last measures and learn one measure from the back then move on to the next. or just start from the middle and move your way back to the begining. Of course dont play the song backwards just play the measures.(a piece of the song backwards until you piece out the whole song.)

Hehe I just pictured it, an old hippie classical guitar teacher like
I had but wanted me to play the parts backwards, I know it's not what he wanted...

Re: Guns n' Roses - Paradise City....A big challenge??
When my band used to do this song I pretty much did the first solo note for note because it is slow enough and melodic/recognizeable. For the long soloing at the end I just improvised, but tried to capture the general essence of what Slash did on it. Copied some licks, targeted the same areas at the same time, etc....takes way too long to learn it note for note and I guess I don't see the point. Plus if you forget it or get off track a little its better to know how to improv your way through it rather than really mess up, but thats my personal approach to covers.
Slash may not be the most technical player in the world or the flashiest, but to me he is great feel that is very, very difficult to nail. Attitude, tone, feel and phrasing are what separate him...IMHO.

Re: Guns n' Roses - Paradise City....A big challenge??
I'm having trouble playing what Slash is playing during the verses, I know the notes but
just getting that feel he has that's hard. Does anybody play the chords before the singing starts in the first verse or just the notes ? I'm playing the notes then hitting the Bb and C chords.
