Squire Telecaster '93

I'v been looking to trade my Epi ( since i dont like the colour and im buying a new one ) and this was the only response i got.. anyway lets get to the point.

He offered me a Squire tele from 93 .. and cash ofc.. has anyone played a squire from back in the days? are they better than the new ones that are out on the market today?

Im thankful for replies!

Hi,

To me, the Squiers from the 80's and 90's, are MUCH nicer than the more recent Squiers. I've actually never played a "bad" older Squier.
Which model Epi do you have? Is his Tele in nice condition?

Take care,
Ace

Re: Squire Telecaster '93

Older Squier's can be a little hit or miss, but some of the Korean and especially the Japanese models can be really nice for the money. A friend of mine has a 92 Korean Squier with a plywood body, but the neck is really good - solid single piece maple neck (no separate board) with really well dressed frets.

A lot of the older Squier's have necks like that, some with plywood bodies and others with solid alder or ash.

Re: Squire Telecaster '93

i have a 93 squire strat, with the plywood body and the only problem i have is it dosnt stay intune at all. but nothing a new set of tuners won't fix i suppose. i just cant justify spending the money on it. only reason i still have it is it was my first guitar so i wont get rid of it.

IMO the newer squier teles are better guitars than the 90's ones, especially the Classic Vibe Tele. But like someone else said the Korean ones can be hit and miss. The japanese are pretty all excellent guitars. Since it is from '93, I'm pretty sure its Korean. It's probably a decent player

Re: Squire Telecaster '93

I just went and played my squire. it has fender lace sensors in the neck and middle positions (they were there when i bought it) and i added an invader humbucker to the bridge. the guitar sounds like absolute crap. i couldnt play anything on it that sounded decent. guess its a worse guitar then i thought. lol!

Re: Squire Telecaster '93

Making generalizations about guitars based only on overall brand and date is tricky.I've had late 80's Squiers that were great (A MIJ P-bass I still have) down to mediocre at best (a MIK Strat). The impression I get from the one modern-era Squier I have (a Bullet Strat that was modded into a 2xP-90 configuration), and those I've picked up in music stores, and what I've read, is that the consistency of the newer ones is generally better, the exception being the 80's MIJ's. But still there's the chance for quality to vary fairly widely from instrument to instrument. A buddy of mine liked the Squier Tele Custom II (the 2xP-90 Tele) so much he bought two (one black, one butterscotch), while the local store had three '51's in that all had fret sprout, yet a Squier Fat Tele I picked up and played in a store within the last couple days seemed fine (unplugged).

Decide based on how you like that particular guitar.
