I was mucking around with with Les Pauls in a shop the other day. I played a couple of Standards, including a Standard Faded. I then tried a couple of the Classics hanging beside them.

Other issues aside, I noticed that the arch in the carved top is much more pronounced on the Standards than on on the Classics. It was really clear to me when I picked up the first Classic, which was ebony finished, that the top was much flatter than the Std Faded. It's not as flat as a Norlin, but definitely flatter than the standard. It was the same on the cherry burst next to it.

I had never noticed this before.

Are there any other differences between the Standard and the Classics (apart from PUps)?

Does the top carve vary again on the Historics?

Classics and Standards have different neck profiles and finish options, top carve may have been an optical illusion as black guitars just look different. My black standard and custom both look flatter than my sunbursts.

The Reissues have a different top carve that is attempting to replicate vintage instruments (as you know).
