i replaced the fender custom shop 54 pickups that i had put in there almosta year ago and was never happy with....heres the thing, i bought this deluxe super strat in 1998 and it had the push button feature that allows you to activate the bridge pickup to give you 2 more options over the 5 way switch. it was my first strat and first good electric(had been playing acoustics up to this point), and not being savvy on caps and volume and tone controls, i swapped out the bridge single for a SD lil'59 and changed the push button to a toggle switch so i could coil split. i run this setup for years and never used the single coils in the neck and middle position.
since then the lp bug bit me and i hadnt messed with the strat a whole lot. one day im in a music store playin a couple american strats through some amps and enjoying the single coil flavors so i decided to take the deluxe back to a normal strat. so i dropped the CS 54 pickups in there and never could get them to sound like i wanted. they were too trebly and brittle sounding. i thought they were wired wrong and rewired them aqgain to no avail. i tried everything i knew to do. messed with the pickup heights, caps, tone controls, nothing helped. i was ready to give up on the strat all together, when a conversation with Will @ WB convinced me to try his strat singles. i am glad i did!! the sound i was thinking i was supposed to be gettin was there!!! my frustration was over. it is a joy to play this strat again and im excited about my tone!! ill shut up now!

Re: New WB single coils

I've got a set of 6707 HotRods in my Warmoth strat...

I like them way better than what I had before (JB Jr. bridge & 2 Kinman 62's). I'm hitting the studio this Thursday with this guitar and the VHT rig. I can't wait to see how they'll record.
