My very own signature series !

It's looking as though Fender isn't going to honour my contribution to the guitar world with a signature model so I've had to make my own.

20th Anniversary Squier Strat from ebay for £42. Black dual rail humbucker that I already had in stock and painted Ivory. Heavy relic job on the body.

The old Squier logo was badly scratched up so I've applied my own. The detectives amongst you will spot a couple of differences that will prevent me from trying to sell this on as a "genuine" Fender.

Pin-up girl on back of headstock.

It plays really well and the soft V neck is very comfy. Purists will hate it but I prefer the rails in the bridge position for that extra bite.

In fact I was so pleased with it when I put it together that I began to bid on project number two.............

Beautiful! I'd love to hear details on applying the pin-up.

Re: My very own signature series !

Next came another Sunburst Squier, this time £38 from ebay. Theres a maple neck that came with it. I havn't got any photo's of the neck tonight as it's wet and I'm leaving it to dry in the garage.
I decided that I wanted to go for the painted over look an this one so I chose Daphne blue over Sunburst. Again, I wanted this one to be a relic so I opted for the full on road warrior look.

I stuck a mint green gaurd on there out of my spares box to add that little something.

Same sort of treatment on the back

The headstock is getting a similar treatment to my other one although the pin-up girl is on the back of the body with this one.

I'm going to give this the hot rails treatment too. I have to wait for the neck to dry before I can mount the pickgaurd as the 11 holes don't match up against the 8.

I'll be posting some videos up on my Youtube page soon of me giving them both a decent test drive.

Re: My very own signature series !

The decals are all just stuff I printed myself onto some clear water slide paper. It's amazing what you can do with photoshop and a little practice

Re: My very own signature series !

Cheers guys !!

The aged sunburst one is all up and running as a player. It's good enough to use live too.
I'm still doing work on the maple neck of the blue relic and I've not installed the rails or properly positioned the pickgaurd yet. Hopefully that one will turn out as well as the first.

I'll add more photo's as I go.

They've both been put together with budget parts but I'd like to think that I could add to them as I go... sperzel locking tuners, brass big block trem, bone nut, orange drops etc etc.

That's exactly how I did it. Apart from I had to resize it in photoshop.

I had never heard of water slip paper until this thread. References I see to it mention only ink-jet printers. Does it work with other printers as well?

See this is what I'm wondering. I'm going to cut vinyl for the logo on my telecustom but I want to use waterslip for some other stuff.

Re: My very own signature series !

Waterslide paper and ink jet printers certainly wont give you a very professional finish. It depends what you looking for. I'm just having a bit of fun but if you really want to make a very tidy job then I'd suggest the specialist decal guys on ebay.

Re: My very own signature series !

I've done my fair share of Squier relic jobs in the past. My favourite weapon of choice is the Squier Affinity series Strat. You can pick these up for around £50 on ebay and with a few tweeks they're a giggable guitar. Spend a little more time on them and you can have a whole bunch of fun.

My Rory clone. Cost - £65, conversion time - 2 weeks.Sold for a profit.

Another one, this time in black. I can't remember how much I paid for this but it wont have been more than £60. I did a few gigs with this one and traded it to a guy in our support band.

Another shot of my old Rory clone which I really regret selling, however it did fund my Black Epi Custom so at least I gained a good guitar out of it.

I've done them for myself and for friends but this is the first time I've done anything like my own signature series.I'm hoping it'll give intrigue and humour out on the live circuit.

That Rory clone looks great!!! How much would you charge to make one, if I supplied the guitar?

Thanks,

No such thing as too many Rory fans...
YouTube - Rory Gallagher - Bullfrog Blues
That is not the Strat, however...
