Question can someone help me with my squire strat neck?

iv'e been having trouble with the intonation of my squire strat guitar project. my high E string is too flat at the twelve fret even when the bridge saddle is all the way foward(sharpest it can go) towards the neck. would replcacing the neck help?

Not as much as learning to set your intonation would

But seriously, Google is your friend on this one. You need to adjust the saddles on your bridge.

Sounds like he did...
The problem is there is no more travel left for further adjustments.

Eggy,
There could be a a number of things going on here.
At this point, I'd maybe have a pro set it up for you.
And no ... a new neck isn't the answer.

Longer bolt may be all you need.
You can pick up a longer one at any hardware store, and make the string shorter for the flat condition.

IF she's flat it get's shorter.
If she's sharp looking it makes it longer.

You say 'project'. What do you mean? Does the neck scale match the body?
What have you 'modded'? As much as you like to 'mod' stuff, you may have 'modded' yourself into a corner.
Give us some more details.

Re: can someone help me with my squire strat neck?

i sanded the body down to the raw wood. that was my project. im gonna probably get an american fender neck to put on it. thats the only modds i have done so far. im getting a golden age prewired pickup set to put in it. im gonna finish the guitar with the raw alder look to it. satin nitro baby!!! but back to the issue at hand. the bridge saddles are as far foward as they can go without hitting the screws that mount the bridge to the body. a friend told me today that a new fender tremolo bridge set would work because squire bridges are actually lower profile then the fender ones and the scale length of the bridge saddles is shorter then the fender.

Re: can someone help me with my squire strat neck?

What kind of Squier is it? If it is one of the cheaper ones, such as an Affinity, or more likely, a Bullet, it may just be manufacturing tolerances are so sloppy that something is installed incorrectly from the 'factory'.
I suppose you did not notice this before you started 'modding'?
Good luck.

Gee man sounds like your in a bind. Did you buy the guitar new or add a different neck to it, you may have to eave adjust the bridge position to get your saddles closer to their target spots. Hope it all works out for yah. Peace always ciao

Re: can someone help me with my squire strat neck?

it still has the same neck on it. it's a squire affinity strat. i just noticed the frets are extremely low so i might need a refret. i bought a neck off of ebay awhile back, you know those blank, maple, cheapo, fender licensed ones anyway it does not fit the pocket right. i messured the neck pocket and it messures up to 2 3/16ths. i think if i get a american fender neck it would work better because i think the squire necks shrink or something because this is the second sqiure i have owned and they all had the same problems with intonation. im really trying to trouble shoot this because i dont wanna spend $300 on a american fender neck and have the same thing happen.

you think if i fill the bridge holes and re drill them closer to the pickgaurd it would make a difference?

Re: can someone help me with my squire strat neck?

Well if your saddles are out of range to intonate your strings you have no choice. I'm not a super guitar tech, but I think that may be your only option without spending a relatively large amout of cash. you could probably Google it up to figure out the neck scale and then you'd know where the appropriate bridge distance should be and screw her in their and it should work out for yah. Also if you use like an extreme set of strings like 7 gauge or 13 gauge it could be causing intonation problems but if your trings are in the normal range like 9s to 12s I would try moving the bridge a bit.

Re: can someone help me with my squire strat neck?

Hahahaha hey man sorry just thought now as I was thinking about it. If it's only one string, you may be able to get away just finding a longer screw to hold your saddle into the bridge that would give you a little more room to close up towards the neck and would require no drilling which = a huge plus. Hope this helps man let me know how you make out. Peace

Hello, tap, tap. Try the longer bolt for that string.

You may have 'modded' yourself into a corner. You should have a good idea of parts compatibility before attempting such an adventurous 'swap'. Fender 'replacement' necks are generally intended for Fender guitars, and may not be suitable for Squier or other 'Fender-copy' installations.
