I agree. I'm a true beginner, the OP is probably a better guitar player than me...

but if there's one piece of advice I can give, it's apply these chords to songs you like. That way you can improve your fingering and speed with these chords and still master them. And the chords won't bore you as much. Always try to apply lessons or new things you're learning to songs you like or would like to play. It just keeps me motivated to learn and practice.

For example, to learn or master certain chords I'd learn to play RHCP songs like Californication. It's really helped.
