Jason, I messed with Linux a few years back with a dual boot system and I just don't have the patience for command line stuff and forget compiling and binaries. I thought Linux and open source was going to CRUSH Microsoft but it hasn't happened.
I guess I'll be using Windows 7 and whatever else they come up with. For now it's 32 bit XP and Vista, and a RC version of 7.

Yeah, Linux can be really frustrating! Ubuntu has gotten to the point, though, where it's fairly plug and play with new systems. Unless you're wanting to do something more advanced/unusual it pretty much "just works" (aside from the 64bit version..). The biggest issues I ever had with the 32bit version was stuff like getting ancient hardware to run (like stuff that plugs into the parallel port mostly), and getting dual monitors to work properly.
I honestly don't think that Linux could continue to exist without MS and Apple doing the "consumer" thing. The burden created by millions of clueless users seeking technical support would be too much for the open source community to bear, I think. I'm just fine with it the way it is right now, and knowing that the Linux community would probably collapse if not for the "big guys", I won't ever bash them.

I also really admire the completeness and technical superiority of some of Apple's products. The iPhone/iPod Touch are brilliant, as is the Macbook Air.
