Yeah, exactly!

I don't care if Montrose had it stolen 100 years ago. It is stolen property and should be returned to the owner. What Gary Moore did with it on stage or in the studio is totally 100% irrelevant. Whether you like either player or hate either player is irrelevant. How long either guy had the guitar is also irrelevant. If Gary Moore had it for 20 years it means he gets to keep it? Are you kidding me? If I were to steal Pages' #1 and hid it for 20 years I would get to keep it? HELL NO!

It may have made a difference if Ronnie abandoned the search and gave it up for lost, but I don't believe he ever did that. I have never heard of anyone searching for a stolen guitar as much as Ronnie has.

The bottom line is: Should a guy who had something stolen from him have that item returned to him if it shows up one day or should someone else get to keep it.

The answer would be clear cut. The item should be returned. The wrinkle in this case is that the guy who has possesion of it now bought it and did not steal it. As sad as it is, the guy who bought it was buying stolen merchandise. Although unknown at the time, it is not ok to buy stolen property. If you are found to have stolen property, you forfit that property. You are not allowed to have stolen property. This is why GM should not get the guitar. He unwittingly purchased stolen goods.
