You have heard from two unrelated sources (myself and BCRGreg) that magazines will print glowing reviews for companies that pay enough for the advertising. This is not hearsay or suspicion; it is first hand experience. I have done it.

You are doing yourself a disservice by being dismissive of this. Rather, you should learn from this little pearl of wisdom and be far more suspicious of the reviews you read in "major publications".
