Tough question.
I don't think one is better. Both are distinctive sounding guitars that are, for many, absolutely essential.
If I HAD to choose, I'd choose a strat. But not because I think it's better. Nothing on the strat is better than the tele bridge pickup. I take the strat for vesatility and the vibrato bar.
