If possession is 9/10 of the law, then I suppose someone has the right to steal one of my signature guitars, and suppose that artist dies the next day and the value of his signature guitars goes through the roof, a month later this guy can sell it back to me for twice as much as it was worth when he stole it because possession is 9/10 of the law?
