Detune the guitar first then screw them in a bit ,tune up and bend some , repeat the procudure till it stops moving . I have mine so they are flush will the body all the time. Do not burry the screws (ie. don't overtighten) in the body, could crack the wood. If you have any doubts on working on it yourself take it back in and have the repair guy setup the guitar to play to your liking.

Yes. Thank you so much. Fender mentions in the owner's manual, "if you want the bridge to be flush with the body
don't overtighten the claw screws just add more springs to achieve the tension." It didn't explain what overtightening was it just said don't overtighten them so I didn't want to tighten it up. I added the remaining two springs as you can see, but I think I would like to tighten the claw a tiny bit.
I plan on taking the bridge out (the cheap whammy bar broke off) to do some work on it next time I change strings. I think I should loosen the claw first, then remove the springs, and then do screws and stuff. Sound about right?
