Some have been terrible, many are awesome for the money! The newer Vintage Modified series, the new Classic Vibes. Those two are excellent! The Deluxe Strat is also great for the money. And yeah, even the standard Squier line uses alder.

Oh, and the Pro Tone's from the 90's were KILLER!
