Look at my thread "Soldering for Dummies" - I gave soldering a whirl and installed my Vitamin Q caps having never touched a soldering iron before... It went well - although VERY frustrating, but I was also very careful with my axe, which isn't guaranteed if you take it to some place like Guitar Center...
