Ok, everyone here's the story....
Time: Thursday, 2:30pm EST...
I get a phone call while at work from the girl that books bands at the club. She tells me that the club booked too many opening acts for this show.
She tells me Dickey has his own opening act he tours with, and she "by accident" she has booked
4 bands to open for the night.
That's a total of 6 bands... Now she asks me how many tickets did we sell...
We were given 50 tickets to sell (@ $16 each) and the band collectively sold 30.
So the woman from the club tells me the band that sold the least amount of tickets would be bumped from the evening and the second least ticket selling band would NOT play on the main stage before Dickey but would play in a different area of the club while the other opening acts are playing...
I told her I'd call her back with the total tally of tickets sold, even though I already knew the number. I called each other member of my band and we decided collectively to bag it. As amazing as it may seem, we all managed to contact every single person we sold tickets to, and tell them not to go, and they would get a full refund.
So I call the girl from the club back (pissed as all hell, what a bunch of scumbags...) and tell her we're not coming. She says how sorry she is and how this type of thing has never happened before. Bullshit! They try to get as many people to sell tickets for them as possible, and then try to screw over the bands... FUCK EM! So then I tell her that we preceded to call everyone we sold tickets to and gave them their money back. She says to me, "Why did you do that for?!? " I couldn't help but laugh! I told her that I wasn't about to be a free ticket agent for the club, plus they were coming to see me, not Dickey
...
Before I got off the phone with her I just had to ask... "How many bands did you book to open for Dickey again?" She says, "Well there's Dickey, his opening act Great Southern..." I cut her off and say, "No, that's the name of the band, Dickey Betts and Great Southern." She says, "No, Great Southern is the name of his opening act..." I tell her again that that's not the case, and she says "Look, I don't want to argue with you, but the name of his opening act is Great Southern." This is when I hung up.
It's no wonder these clubs come and go like there's no tomorrow, they're all run by idiots!
