These guys are just guessing. what really happens is that frequency canceling phenomena of "standing waves" where the tone gets trapped between two parallel planes and cancel each other out. If you change the angle of the pick guard it will resolve your problem. If you add 12 washers between the bracket and pick guard according to test results it should optimize your tone.
