Re: new strat!!!!
I went in to play the roadworns, and tried the 60's 1st. the rosewood felt good, and the fretwork was better than expected. It played well, but didnt SOUND very good. not STRATY at all, more like 300 dollar ibanez. The highs didnt sparkle, plucking on the low E had no punch (thru a twin on 6!). It was also VERY light, not just for a strat, but for a guitar in general. The relicing was A1. Top noch job on that, very authentic. I figured maybe I got a dud, so I tried the 50's (maple fretboard/neck). a little brighter, but same issues I had with the other one were still there. Played well, but no uumph. I asked to play this red custom shop R56, because Ive played it before and KNEW it played and sounded great. 1st off, double the volume right off the bat. Heavier, surer playing, SOUNDED like a strat thru a twin reverb ought to. sat there for half hour and doodled, hopelessly doing my best SRV imitation in the 1st position. God this guitar ROCKED! every pickup sounds great and is useful. so the tag had 2699. no way. but 1 year finance. Stioll too much money. Long story short, walked away paying 1900 bucks. I could have gotten 2 roadworns, but they wouldnt have amounted to half the strat this is.
