I know they used that backing plate (leftovers) for 57 Classic, 490s 498s, 496s, 500s! It SHOULD be a 496R in there. Check the magnet, that will give us a clue. Those backing plates first appeared in 1974. They were used for T-Tops, Shaws and others. I have a 57 Classic with that backing plate. It would not be BRW.....but IRW.
