epiphone valve junior combo
Straight talk!
Used V2 green board epiphone valve junior combo.
front panel is not quite tight, but ok. looks like someone bumped it.
I'll try to tighten it up.
The rest of the cabinet is fine.
The speaker is in excellent shape.
It's the V2 head.. which means it has the 7.5K output transformer in it.
With one 4 ohm output jack.
I modified it.
It's now hotter, brighter, and you can slam big low note full chords into it
with no mud, and no breakup.
I put in larger caps for that, going from 22uF to 100uF.
I swapped out the tiny poly caps for 715p Sprague Orange drops.
I swapped out other caps for taming the lows.
I put in a few 1 to 5 watt flameproof resistors and got the voltages corrected and the tone sweetened up.
I took out the volume pot and put in a better one.
I added a genuine carling standby switch to the front panel.
My approach was.. take this little combo from dead stock to very very nice..
and it's all about toooob tone and toooob overdrive.
This not your country pickers choice. ZZ top/ACDC.. yes..
classic rock.. hot blues.. no problem.
cleans are nice, but only at low volume.
Anything past 9:00 on the chickenhead is starting to rock. Moreso with humbuckers than single coils, as you'd expect.
The amp is voiced so that you turn it up.. say 1:00.. and then use your guitars volume and tone controls.. you never have to touch it..
It's very dynamic.. responds to touch beautifully.
If you want, I'll add an 8ohm output jack in the back.
If you want to pay for it, I'll add a tone control or a gain control..
I don't think you need them.. your guitars gonna be able to do all the tone mods you'll want.. and the tubes are nicely balanced right now.. so.. if you want less gain.. turn it down.
If you want low volume playing. use a pedal in front.
then turn this little sucker up.. it'll love that pedal in front!
You've seen what name brand mods sell for on ebay..
I've done all the work. I've used all good parts.
I've done five of these. I play one myself.
Shipping is a consideration.. but no reasonable offer refused.
No bench time charges! If you want more bells and whistles.. I'll only charge you for the parts.
You can add, 8ohm output jack, tweed tone control, gain pot, bright switch, negative feedback control, conjunctive filter switch, rear panel fuse holder,
for less money than those mods plus instructions would cost you on the web.
Personally, I think the 8ohm output jack is all I'd add. Just so I could use a different speaker box with it.
Single ended pure tube tone for very little money.
make offer.. trades considered.
