I have been using Fret Doctor for awhile now. May I suggest that you apply and let it rest overnight. Unless you(or someone before you) have somehow clogged the pores, it will be absorbed and then do the light buff. I do not believe that there is anything that will soften or otherwise clog the wood. Then,buff it up-that nice glow and the feel will be there and last longer. Some oboes and clarinets and bassoons are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars as are quite a few violin family instruments and they benefit from this application.mt
