Other than that, if you're not comfortable with doing those things you mentioned yourself, go and have it done by a good tech. Also, if you have the chance, ask if you can be there while he/she does the work to see how it's done, and then maybe you can do lots of these things yourself the next time. There are also excellent books about the subject, one by Dan Erlewine comes to mind.
