One of the reasons the Les Paul sounds as good as it does is the bridge plugged right into the wood. The strings vibrate the bridge saddles, the vibrations go into the wood where it rings like a bell and back into the strings and you can hear the wood.
I wouldn't mind owning a guitar with a Floyd Rose, but seeing them on a Paul makes my skin crawl.

what about Mark Knopfler? his Pensa-Suhr has a Floyd Rose trem and EMG pups but he still sounded good.
