Here's one.
I was installing a Middle pick up in A Tele, might I add, a very nice clean 62 candy apple red Tele.
This Guitar happened to belong to Thomas McClary of the Commodores.
This man is by no means a nobody in the Music world. Hell, he was co-writer of "Thee times a Lady"!
He came into the shop earlier than expected and the job wasn't yet completed.
Anyway, the route was done and now I had to find a way to run the wires to the control cavity. So, with my trusty 12 inch long 1/4 inch diameter drill bit I proceeded to "carefully" drill to the cavity.
My aim was off! I drilled a Hole right through the back of the guitar!! In front of HIM!
I think I got as red as the guitar and apologized, and offered to repair and refinish the body for free.
Thomas said he didn't care, I finished the job, and he thanked and paid me.
He even came back many times and ended up ordering one of my custom instruments and using it for the cover shot of one of his solo albums.
