Re: Practice amp help

The Songworks Little Lanilei would be your most practical, best built, versatile, and portable option by a landslide!!! The limiting thing about this amp is the 6 1/2" speaker size, less bass response, but even so it has a surprising fullness to its sound. And you can dial in full distortion at conversation volumes, or softer!
You do know that it has 33watts, right? Whats great is that the tube section of this amp is only a 1/4 watt. This is the only truly effective tube amp that I've ever heard. The way its designed, its almost like the entire sound from this amp is the actual 1/4 watt tube section. the 1/4 watt tube section is then "amplified thru the 33watt solid state section. It cranks!! Better yet, there are ext. speaker out jacks on the back allowing you to run up to a full stack!!!!!!!!! I've wanted one of these for so long, maybe this coming year I'll be able to give it a go.

For a new Class A "all tube" amp, I can't recommend the Gibson GA-5 combo enough (if you can find one), Either the Epiphone Valve Jr. Half-stack or combo are great. The Orange AD5 with Celestion 10" speaker at $498 should be worth a look as well.
Keep in mind, while all these all tube amps that I just mentioned are only 5watts, they will still rip your face off to achieve high or full on distortion. I have the Gibson GA-5, and while only 5watts thru an 8" speaker, the sound is heavenly, but ear shattering for bedroom/late hours use!!!

Overall the Songworks gets my vote.
