I happen to like the 490R and 498T in an SG.
New pots and PIO caps should be all you need.
If the stock pick ups don't sound better after the pot kit then find some that sound better to you.But at least give them a fair chance.
Don't just assume they are bad pick ups from what other people say let your ears decide.
