I'll be 55 this summer, I was like 17 in '74 when I met him, so he would have been 21 or 22? I think he was 17 when he made his first record? Damn! He was a monumental influence on me. I used to stand at his feet in front of the stage for every show and watch every move he made. If he farted in the middle of Purple Haze, I farted in the middle of it.

He taught me how to play Strange Universe and The Answer in the dressing room before a couple shows. And it's funny you mention hockey? He used to play backstage in the arenas with the rest of the band, back when Jimmy and Paul were still with him.

So at the funeral we got him a wreath in the shape of a lifebelt. Because it's what he would have wanted.
