Um... the Les Paul was built for Les Paul under the Gibson brand name collaborated by and with Ted McCarty to compete with the Fender Telecaster wasn't it? It WAS a Les Paul signature model that was designated to be the new SG, and when Les Paul saw it, he refused to have his name on it?
The Stratocaster is a model name. If Leo Fender thought it would work he'd probably named the strat the "Carsoncaster" since Bill Carson was so instrumental in developing it along with Eddie Travares. Fender in this case is the brand, not the model name.
